ARMOPUR

ARMOPUR® is a range of two-component acrylic-polyurethane coatings for industrial and protective applications, designed for long-term atmospheric protection of metal structures, equipment, and machinery. In the Industrial & Protective Coatings segment, ARMOPUR® systems are used as primers and topcoats within single- or multi-layer anticorrosion systems, providing excellent UV resistance, long-lasting color retention, and chemical durability. Thanks to a variety of formulations—including primers, enamels, and Direct-to-Metal (DTM) topcoats—ARMOPUR® is suitable for exterior use in the most demanding climatic and industrial conditions.

FAQ

  • High chemical and atmospheric resistance — retain color, gloss, and decorative effect even under prolonged exposure to UV, rain, pollution, and industrial environments.

  • Flexibility and impact resistance — effectively resist cracking and mechanical damage.

  • Fast and uniform drying — reduce the overall coating process cycle.

  • Excellent adhesion to various substrates — including epoxy primers and metals, when used with appropriate primers.

  • Compatibility with multi-layer systems — can be combined with epoxy primers and intermediate layers for enhanced corrosion protection.

Differences from alkyd coatings:

  • Higher resistance to UV and fading;

  • Superior decorative properties and durability;

  • Increased chemical resistance, especially in industrial environments.

Differences from epoxy coatings:

  • Epoxies provide better barrier protection and adhesion to metal but perform poorly under UV exposure and atmospheric aging;

  • Acrylic-polyurethanes are used as topcoats to provide long-term decorative and weather-resistant protection.

Acrylic-Polyurethane Primers (Primers)

  • Provide reliable anticorrosion protection and adhesion to metal substrates, including steel, galvanized steel, and aluminum. They dry quickly and allow accelerated overcoating with acrylic-polyurethane topcoats using the “wet-on-wet” method, ensuring high process efficiency and reducing production cycle time. Example — ARMOPUR® Primer 011.

Sanding Fillers / Primer Surfacers

  • Designed to create a smooth, even surface before applying decorative topcoats in three-layer coating systems. They offer excellent sandability, compatibility with metal and epoxy substrates, and help achieve maximum decorative performance of the finish layer. They dry quickly and form a uniform layer ready for subsequent application of acrylic-polyurethane enamels. Example — ARMOPUR® Filler 012.

All-in-One / DTM Primer-Enamels

  • Combine the properties of a primer and a topcoat: providing both anticorrosion protection and decorative coverage in a single pass. They simplify the coating process by allowing one material to replace multiple layers where appropriate. Available in deep matte, matte, semi-gloss, and gloss finishes. Examples — ARMOPUR® DTM 113 and ARMOPUR® DTM 162.

Acrylic-Polyurethane Topcoats / Finishes

  • Offer high resistance to UV, weathering, pollution, and chemical exposure. They maintain color and gloss throughout the service life of the coating. Used in multi-layer “primer — intermediate — topcoat” systems, they are suitable for exterior protection of equipment, machinery, and metal structures with high decorative requirements. Examples — ARMOPUR® Topcoat 111, ARMOPUR® Topcoat 112, ARMOPUR® Topcoat 161.

Specialized Modifications (Anti-Scratch, MIO “Graphite,” Anti-Graffiti)

  • Developed to address specific operational challenges and enhance coating performance. Available options include:

    • Anti-Scratch — increased resistance to mechanical damage and scratches;

    • MIO (Graphite) — heavily loaded coatings with micaceous iron oxide particles, providing improved barrier protection and a decorative “graphite” effect;

    • Anti-Graffiti — coatings that are easy to clean from graffiti and dirt, maintaining the decorative and protective layer for longer.

Defining the Service Environment
The main factor in selecting a coating is the type of environment, climatic conditions, level of chemical aggressiveness, and operational load. For precise system selection and coating thickness, it is recommended to consult sales representatives or the company’s technical support team.

Surface Preparation
For most industrial systems, abrasive cleaning of the metal to Sa2½ standard is recommended.

System Thickness and Number of Layers
The optimal system is usually built as a two- or three-layer structure: primer — intermediate layer — acrylic-polyurethane topcoat. Recommended dry film thicknesses (DFT) are defined by industry standards such as ISO 12944 and depend on the type of structure and service conditions.

Compatibility with Epoxy Layers
ARMOPUR® is fully compatible with ARMEPOX® epoxy primers and intermediate layers, allowing the construction of durable two- or three-layer systems with high atmospheric resistance.
